Why we need the Direct Market
Who remembers those wonder years cool moments, being a young Lad going to your favorite Comic Book Store; new Comic Day was like your birthday every week meeting with friends, having engrossed discussions about your favorite Heroes, stories, Titles etc. as you make your journey. Walking in to the Comic shop having that nice smell of new print caress your nose, hmm! You go to the new comics section, picking your titles and bringing them to the front counter. Chatting up the Owner or whoever was behind the counter about how you enjoyed present and past issues. Feeling like you are in the comic universe. In that one moment, you leave the growing pains behind relishing in your comic world. Leaving the store with that impactful feeling looking forward to doing it all over again next week; ah! The good old day’s right?
I say the day of the Direct Market is back better than ever; providing you with more diverse titles, attracting a broader customer base and access to meet your favorite creators, editors, writers & artist. Some comic lovers remember the days when you felt alone in the universe. Not really having people to share this art form with. I think the acceptance of comics has risen. More people are going to the Comic shop not only for the comics but to discuss and meet others who respect this art form. I have certainly seen a great number of women as well as men picking up titles for many different genres Funny, Superhero, Crime, Thrillers, adventure, fantasy etc…. I know the crash of the direct market in the 90’s which caused many Comic shops to go out of business, really gave this art form a beating, causing Many to have a hard time staying in touch with their favorites characters. This is a great time for comic lovers whether first time or seasoned customers. The Direct Market is our gateway to cool moments. You think you the only geek around? Think Again!
